'Signal Fires: The Cinema of Jem Cohen' now available

A 250 page book (in English and Spanish) with an additional 30 page gallery of color polaroid images has been released by the Punto de Vista documentary festival:

CHAIN at Museuam of Modern Art, MAY 2010

MoMA will screen the feature film, CHAIN (2004, 99 min. w. Miho Nikaido and Mira Billotte) as part of the Creative Capital Film Series.

MAY 15 at 4pm (with filmmaker Q & A) and MAY 27 at 7pm (filmmaker present).

RETROSPECTIVES and MASTER CLASSES IN SPAIN

Jem will have a (nearly) complete retrospective at the Punto de Vista Documentary Festival in Pamplona, Spain, Feb. 5th - 13th. The retrospective consists of 7 programs and will be accompanied by the publication of a new, bilingual book on Cohen's work, <em>Signal Fires</em>.

The retrospective will then travel to Galicia (CGAI) and Valencia (IVAC/LA FILMOTECA) - details to follow.

Mexico City film with live soundtrack to Chile for SANFIC film fest

A new version of Manifiesto D.F., now called Ciudad de Mexico por Azar will be presented on Aug. 20th in Santiago, Chile as part of the SANFIC film festival. Musicians DJ Rupture, Andy Moor, Guy Picciotto, and T. Griffin will be on board, with new narration read by Juan Pablo Bastarrachea. Cohen will also give a workshop and present several evenings of screenings.

A "documentary musical hallucination" on the subject of Empire, inspired by the work of Joseph Roth and the end of the Bush dynasty. The film includes performances by Vic Chesnutt, Guy Picciotto, T. Griffin with Catherine McRae, and members of Silver Mount Zion.

JEM COHEN MOVIE NITES AT IFC STARTING JULY 15, 2009

Jem will be hosting 3 nights at New York's IFC theater this summer, starting on Weds. July 15 at 7:30 with FILM and the FOLK / PUNK CONNECTION in which Jem will be joined by John Cohen (The High Lonesome Sound, There is No Eye) and Ian MacKaye (Evens, Fugazi, Minor Threat) for a special program of films and discussion.

There will be a reception on March 28th, 6-8 for Jem and Patti Smith, whose show, VEIL, runs concurrently in the gallery.March 26 will bring the Mexico city premiere of MANIFESTO D.F., an evening of Mexican city portrait films shot on 16mm, with live soundtracks by T. Griffin, Guy Picciotto, Andy Moor, DJ Rupture, and Sonido Changorama.
